1. What is Hi-res sound?

Before discussing the history of Hi-res audio and other things, we must first learn about what the definition of hi-res sound is?

Hi-res stands forHigh-resolution audio(High-definition audioorHD audio)commonly referred to as lossless music formats such as FLAC, WAV, ALAC, and AIFF. The theory will preserve the audio information as the original CD.

However, it is worth noting that even CDs with 16 bit / 44.1 kHz quality are not the highest but they have been downsample from the original recording with a much higher quality (about 32 bits / 384 kHz). ).

The “sample rate” parameter of a sound represents its quality and granularity with the number of samples taken per second (eg 44,100 hz means 44,100 times per second).

The number of bits represents the accuracy of the sound, the higher the bit, the more detailed the tone and vice versa. In other words, the parameter “sample rate” is the “acoustic accuracy” of the song when recording in the studio.

Therefore, a sound file with a higher sampling rate / bit depth of the CD , ie 16bit / 44.1kHz , is recognized as Hi-Res.

The more bits there are , the signal can be measured accuratelythan in the first case, so moving from 16 bits to 24 bits can bring a noticeable leap in quality.

High-resolution audio files typically use 96kHz or 192kHz sampling rates at 24-bit or 32-bit. You may also have 88.2kHz and 176.4kHz files.

In fact, high quality music is not new, it existed many years ago, but it was not until 2014 that it was named Hi-res and increasingly used by sound labels. There are two common concepts that Hi-res Music and Hi-res Audio.
